Kilmainham Gaol is steeped in important Irish history, being a working jail from the 1780s to the 1920s. Many of Ireland’s revolutionaries we were imprisoned and also executed here, some of the most notable being the leaders of the 1916 rushing. Take a visit to Kilmainham gaol and immerse yourself in the history of leaders fighting for Irish freedom. Take a look in the Catholic chapel where Joseph Plunkett and Grace had their last-minute wedding and just a short few hours later Plunkett was executed.
Visit the west wing where several notable inmates from the 1798 and 1803 rebellions, leaders from the Easter rising and Republican prisoners were held here.
The Gaol is well worth a visit if you want to learn about political history in Ireland. The museum is easily accessible from the hotel, get the red line luas to Suir Road and from there the museum is just a 9-minute walk.
