The best festive things to do in Dublin this December

While the weather may be getting a lot colder but that shouldn’t stop you from getting out and exploring Dublin this Christmas. December is a wonderful month filled with many nice things to do and even if it rains, we have got you covered with a range of indoor and outdoor activities!

Dublin lights up at Christmas and there’s no better way to spend an evening than walking through the streets of Dublin, taking in all the Christmas lights. Many shops create excellent Christmas window displays also with Brown Thomas always being a must-see! Get yourself a hot drink and stroll around and take in the wonderful atmosphere that you only see at Christmas time.

Dublin Zoo offers something very special in the winter months, visit the zoo at night time and experience the Wild Lights. In it’s second year Wild Lights is a spectacular experience and offers something totally different for visitors. This year’s theme is Stories, Myths and Legends and you will see childhood favourites such as Peter Pan, The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland. Wild Lights is well worth a visit for both children and adults.

Running until December 22nd, it’s Dublin Castle’s first time to host Christmas markets. With stunning surroundings, you can walk around the market while enjoying some mulled wine or hot chocolate to keep you warm. Enjoy a variety of stands including food vendors, hand made craft stalls as well as lovely seasonal treats. In the evening you can enjoy carol singing and free access to the State apartments between 6.00 – 8.00pm. A visit to the market will definitely get you in the mood for Christmas.

Another great thing to do is take in a show at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, while in Dublin. The theatre is just an eight-minute walk from the hotel so even if the weather is a bit on the chilly side you don’t have to far to go. With shows like The Snowman Christmas Special and Mamma Mia taking place in December, you are guaranteed a fun-filled evening out.
