Natural History Museum
At The Spencer Hotel
Open since 1857, the Natural History Museum also known as “The Dead Zoo” houses over 10,000 exhibits and provides an insight into the natural world. The museum is split into different rooms dedicated to different types of animals. Visit the Irish room where you will find animal native to Ireland, including giant Irish deer skeletons, mammals, birds and fish. The Mammals of the World collection include a polar bear, elephant, lemurs, apes, lions and an array of monkeys. A favourite of visitors is Spoticus the giraffe, the museum mascot who even has his own Twitter account!
The discovery zone gives both adults and children the chance to get hands on and learn lots. Get up close to a badger and pilot whale skull and learn all about different environments and the species that live there. As well as the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions also take place and change throughout the year.
The Natural History museum is just a 20-minute walk from the Spencer hotel or 15 minutes by public transport. After your visit to the museum why not head across to Merrion Square and take a stroll around the park, take a look at the Oscar Wilde statue amongst others that are present there.
