Winter Weekends in Dublin

Christmas is a distant memory at this stage as you try to push through the bleakest month of the year. What better way to cheer yourself up than with a short break away? A weekend in Dublin will be full of activities and fun, blowing those winter cobwebs away. You can fit a lot in, in 2-3 days in Dublin, below are some of the highlights!

Visit one (or more!) of Dublin’s parks

There is nothing better than a walk on a fresh winter morning and Dublin has its share of wonderful parks to visit. Stephen’s green is the first that usually comes to mind and is a lovely park to wander around and snap some nice pictures, however, it may be busy. If you want something a little quieter visit the Iveagh Gardens that are hidden away just off Hardcourt Street, and steeped full of history. Phoenix Park, while a little further out of the city is well worth a visit, as there is so much to see. You can walk through the park, go deer spotting and then check out the President’s House. Dublin Zoo is also located in Phoenix Park and is well worth a visit when going to the park.

Afternoon Tea with a view

Who doesn’t love afternoon tea? However, if you are only visiting Dublin for a few days you may not want to spend the afternoon eating dainty cakes when there is so much to see – well problem solved. Take a vintage tea tour, where you will take in the sights of Dublin while enjoying a delicious afternoon tea on the bus – you get the best of both worlds.

Guinness Storehouse

No trip to Dublin is complete with a visit to the Guinness Storehouse. Learn the history of the black stuff, see how it’s sold worldwide and relive some of the best, most memorable ads on the telly. There is an option to learn how to pour your own pint and at the top of the storehouse enjoy your own pint and take in the views of Dublin in their panoramic bar.

The Viking Splash Tour

Wrap up warm and explore like a Viking on the Viking Splash Tour. This is a great way to see the city where you travel on both land and water, changing it up from the regular bus tour. Learn about the history of the city and listen to stories about the old medieval city and Viking heritage. Take a tour on land before splashing into the Grand Canal Basin and don’t forget you will learn to roar like a Viking!

 Take in a show

A show is great at any time of the year, but if it happens to be raining when you visit taking in a show is a great way to spend the evening. The Bord Gais Energy Theatre hosts a lot of musicals throughout the year as well as concerts, with many shows still having tickets available on the night so if you don’t plan in advance you may still be able to get tickets. The good news is if you stay at the Spencer Hotel you are just an 8-minute walk from the theatre.

With lots of great things to do in Dublin, there is no better time to book your break away. Book directly with the Spencer Hotel and save 10% on your break.
