The National Gallery
Founder of the National Gallery, William Dargan approached the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) back in 1852 to create an incredible exhibition. He had seen a mesmerizing exhibition the year previously in Crystal Palace in London. When the exhibition opened in Dublin, it had a fantastic reaction. It became clear that Irish people were taken by the arts and so it would later become the National Gallery of Ireland. It was disbanded for a short period but was later re-established back in 1864. Roman paintings hung in it along with loans from the London National Gallery when it re-opened. Over the last 120 years, exquisite donations have been gifted to the gallery from people’s homes. It has been extended over the years to accommodate exclusive designs and beautiful, historical pieces.
It is well worth a visit if you want to see some really priceless designs and beautiful paintings. The building itself has been refurbished with a modern, minimalist look so it is worth a visit for that reason as well. If you are visiting Dublin and are looking for a hotel near the National Gallery, The Spencer Hotel is a 15 minute walk and an 11 minute drive. We would recommend walking and taking a trip through Dublin to see the sights. Take a gander through Trinity College and see the beautiful buildings and landscape.
